What a start to the week!

  • Major flooding here in the UK this week – several people sadly killed!
  • A good friend lost his fight against Motor Neurone Disease – rest in peace Peter
  • Looks like I might have my personal challenge lined up for next year!

Major Flooding.

It seems like we can’t win in the UK – we had drought conditions through the best part of summer this year, now we have so much water that the flood defences built by the environment agency after last years misery just cant cope – although the word is that they have saved some arteas from flooding. The problem seems to be that their is so much water that the defences just cant cope.. maybe next year (or the year after, or the year after that….)

The Loss of a Good Friend

I heard over the weekend that a good friend of mine, Peter Blewitt had lost his fight against Motor Neurone Disease, which he had been battling against for more than 2 years. Pete was a lovely bloke and will be missed by all that knew him. I know the Rough Diamonds will miss him, but am sure that he will be with them on their outings.

The Challenge for 2013!

For the last several years, I have undertaken an endurance walk in the North of England called the Lyke Wake Walk – a walk in the park. Well the park is the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the walk is 42 miles, but that aside its a brilliant walk if you are fit and enjoy the challenge of walking on the moors(and potentially through the night).

Next year I think I may undetake the Cayeran Yomp in Scotland, which is an organised event in aid of a number of charities, among them the Army Benevolent Fund. Their is a choice of 222, 32 or 52 Miles.. just trying to decide which to go for.. most likely the 32… or maybe the 52!

If you are interested in either of these.. you can find details of the Lyke Wake Walk here or if you are interested in the Cateran Yomp, have a look here
